You choose how you want to live. You’re self-reliant and make informed decisions, taking care of yourself with autonomy. You don’t want or need the constraints of assisted care, but you do want to be part of a supportive community that values your contribution and respects your choices.
Absolutely! This is an independent living community.
Please refer to the details on the Application page.
We understand how important your beloved pet is but unfortunately pets are not allowed at Twilanga.
If you have bought into a life rights unit, the levy covers normal exterior and interior maintenance, comprehensive security, access to all the facilities and resources of the common property and one hour of housekeeping a week for each unit. This includes vacuuming, cleaning of floors, toilets and windows.
If you are renting your unit, the rent includes your accommodation and the same housekeeping, maintenance, security and access to common property and facilities like the lounge, library, minibus shopping trips and gardens as the life rights units. It also includes three meals a day.
Each unit gets 1 hour, one day a week.
Certainly. You can hire your own domestic worker on a daily basis, but certain rules do apply – for convenience and security of the community. However, we don’t allow live-in domestic workers.
Two employees operate the washing machines and tumble dryers on your behalf, at a set fee. Residents doing their own laundry have access to a large drying area.
There is no ironing service offered by Twilanga, but you may certainly hire your own domestic worker to do this for you.
As with everything we do for our residents, we take care of your laundry but we do not accept liability for any damage.
We ask residents to separate recyclables (clean plastic, clean cardboard and clean glass bottles and cans) from the general household refuse and these are dealt with appropriately. We have also initiated solar power for the Care Centre and part of the Village.
Certainly! Even if you enjoy cooking sometimes you might feel like a change. All residents are welcome to make use of the dining facilities. You need to book your meal the previous day and the cost of this will be debited to your account. And yes, you may bring a guest or two as long as you book in time or even order catering for a special occasion.
Every unit is renovated before a new resident moves in. It is necessary that fittings, fixtures and paint conform to the Village specifications to facilitate economic maintenance and repairs. You may be permitted to make alterations, at your own expense, but this is not automatic and there’s a process to be followed. All alterations are dependent on the formal written approval of the General Manager. And all improvements become the property of the Association, without compensation.
Twilanga offers comprehensive security which includes electric fencing, beams in the gardens, security cameras, a guarded gatehouse, roving night patrols, and armed response.
The insurance only covers the buildings and includes expenses in temporarily accommodating you should your unit become uninhabitable during fire or floods. But the insurance does not cover your personal property and household contents, so you’ll need to handle that yourself.
The costs of running any Care Centre are significant, so it is necessary to maintain occupancy levels or monthly fees would be prohibitive. This means we can’t guarantee that there will be a place immediately available for you should you need it. However, residents of Twilanga get priority when places in the Care Centre are available.
If you do need care and there’s no vacancy at the Twilanga Care Centre at the time, we can provide you with details of alternative care facilities to help you make your arrangements. Once a spot opens up at the Care Centre, we’ll offer you the option of moving in, though you may choose to stay where you are.
Every life rights model is different. At Twilanga, the life rights model is designed to facilitate affordable living with unit prices significantly lower than market rates. Your investment in Twilanga life rights is depreciated over 10 years.
We currently estimate a 15 year waiting period, but this may change over time. Please note, though, that it is hard to predict accurately when spaces will become available.
Absolutely not! We reserve the two bedroom units for two people when you buy into the life rights lease at Twilanga, but once you’ve moved in it’s your home. (We used to say “for couples” but sometimes we also have siblings who share a two bedroom unit.)
