At the core of Twilanga Care Trust is a deep-seated commitment to our residents.

We understand the emotional and financial challenges many families face, and it’s our mission to provide a safety net, ensuring that every resident can continue to live with dignity and peace.

Post-Covid, we were struggling to regain financial stability. We had cut back and scaled down and were still faced with having to move my mom from her home of 15 years at Twilanga, to Johannesburg to live with us.

It also meant we needed a new house with space for her. Financially, this seemed an impossible task.

Her life was settled at Twilanga and it was always a great comfort to us to know she was happy, supported by her friends, and well taken care of by the management and staff.

We are absolutely indebted to the Twilanga Care Trust for helping my mom stay at Twilanga. This was a real blessing for my Mom and our whole family, and has given us all great peace.

Mom and Dad were life right residents of Twilanga for over 10 years where they spent the happiest years of their retirement in a lovely cottage surrounded by gardens they loved, but they got to the stage where they were no longer capable of running a home and needed assistance.

We were in a real dilemma as they were short of reserves and had large monthly medical bills. No matter how many times we turned over the pennies my brother and I, who both had financial challenges at the time, were unable to make up the monthly shortfall. We were not sure how to provide the care we felt our parents deserved. We felt pretty desperate.

We approached Mike, the Manager of Twilanga, who was incredible. He treated us with respect and care and said he would request assistance from the Twilanga Care Trust. They were amazing and granted us a subsidy which meant we could now afford to keep both parents at Twilanga, where they spent the last couple of years amongst friends and getting the most exceptional care possible at the Care Centre.

Our parents were truly loved and cared for in their last years. All we can say is a very big thank you to all who made this possible.

We remember with affection the love and care Eileen received while a resident in Frail Care. The amazing staff and the facilities were world class and we trust that still is the case.

Our grateful thanks to the Trustees of Twilanga Care Trust for the financial support given to Eileen during her last few years in Frail Care. Without that assistance, our lives in Australia would have been more difficult.

While the financial assistance was appreciated, it was the management and staff of the Centre that gave us the most comfort and reassurance. We knew that she was being looked after with the love and dignity she deserved.

When we visited, she was well dressed and her hair and makeup done. We always felt fortunate that she was in the safe and caring hands of the Sisters, nurses and carers which made our life in Australia easier with that knowledge.

Our Origins and Objectives

Our journey began in August 1998 when the Trust was established to support the Umhlanga Senior Citizens Association with a R100 donation from Philip Stanley Rolfe.

The Twilanga Care Trust is a registered Public Benefit Organisation and is dedicated to assisting residents of Twilanga who face significant financial concerns.

Our vision is twofold: to expand our grant capacity and to support Twilanga Village in delivering key projects designed to support the safety and well-being of all residents, such as the solar power projects.

We believe in complete transparency and the Trust accounts are diligently audited by GCA Accountants and Auditors Inc.

We strive to maximise the impact of every donation and the operating costs of the Trust are limited to essential professional services, including tax & accounting and financial advisory.
